Hi everyone....Want to share my happiness with you all regarding a recent show of mine!
Very recently i performed in a show at Sime Darby Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia...The show was for the members of an honourable royal family of a Malaysian state...I'm not revealing their identity to respect their privacy...The show was part of a charity dinner.....The most unique thing about the show was the fact that almost none of the audience was Indian....Though Hindi was not their language, yet I, a Hindi singer, was called there to perform Hindi songs...And they enjoyed my performance :) It proves the universal appeal of Hindi music...I felt very lucky to perform in such a show, in front of royal audience, in front of non-Hindi speaking Hindi music lovers....And it became possible because of my fans, who have been supporting me all these years, to bring me this far....Thank you all :))

Port Blair story..

Last Sunday i went to Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar, to perform in a show. After i reached the Port Blair airport, i was stopped by immigration officers; Because they thought that i'm not an Indian, hehehe!
It was raining heavily there...We feared that the show might get cancelled because of rain. Anyway, we visited a few famous places of Port Blair....Visit to the cellular jail was a memorable experience :(
Luckily rain stopped before evening. Audience was nice, so performing for them was a pleasant experience for me...I enjoyed a lot :)
Port Blair is a beautiful place...I would love to go there again and again for holidaying...Once again i felt lucky to be an Indian :)

Hi everyone...Recently i have had the good fortune of participating in this year's Goa Carnival :) The carnival was celebrated across the state of Goa from 5th to 8th March...I was there on 7th and 8th March...On 7th, i took part in the carnival parade in the town of Vasco...The parade was so colourful, lively - Awesome :D On 8th March, i performed in a show celebrating the carnival...Got a lot of praises from different people including actress Mahima Chowdhary...She is so beautiful...She is actually more beautiful than what she looks on screen!
People of Goa were lovely, friendly to me...This Goa trip was really refreshing for me :)

Here is a very important question for you all…hope everyone of you give your honest opinion…I need them very much to become a better singer.
Does my voice sound similar to that of any other singer? Creativity is the first condition of any form of art. So to be a true artist, I need to develop a unique voice…everyone’s voice is God gifted, but it takes a deliberate attempt to make it sound beautiful…it is not that a voice sounds beautiful without any effort…so in the process of making our voices beautiful, we singers sometimes, knowingly or unknowingly, copy tones and singing styles of other singers, which is not good, like any form of plagiarism…I really never want to do that…but I don’t know if I’ve been imitating someone unknowingly…that’s why I need your opinion on originality of my voice and singing style…please be honest in your replies…your honest opinion will help me a lot to become a better artist :)

Hi everybody.....this is a recording of my practice of the song ‘Kehna Hi Kya’ from the movie Bombay...I tried to make a final recording the next day....but every time I started to record the song, I was interrupted....this happened 4-5 times....so eventually I gave up...hope you like the practice version.
When I was preparing the song, I was unable to understand some words in the song....so I decided to call a friend of mine to help me to understand the lyrics....when I called her and asked her to help me, her father was standing beside her; he helped me to understand the lyrics....he was Mehboob sir himself, who wrote this song.....I felt great :-)

Around the middle of November, 2008, I got a call from Zee Saregamapa team. I was told that they wanted to make an episode in which the top 6 of Saregamapa 2009 would be performing duet songs with the top 6 of Saregamapa 2007. As I was at the 5th position in Saregamapa 2007, I would be required to perform and as no. 3 and no. 6 were from Pakistan and would not be able to come to India for the shoot, no. 7 and no. 8 from Saregamapa 20007 would be joining Aneek Dhar, Raja Hasan, Poonam Yadav and me to partner top 6 of Saregamapa 2009. I was also told that I would be performing with Soumen Nandi. So I phoned to Soumen to select a song for us. We considered a few options. Soumen asked me to listen to the song “Tu Hi To Mera Dost Hain” and said if I did not have any problem with that song, we would sing it. I had not heard the song properly before. So I collected the song and checked by singing it myself, how it would sound in my voice. I sang those lines of the song which I would be singing if we would be performing it in Saregamapa. I sang once and then once again. Second time I recorded my effort. Here is that recording. This is not the whole song but only those lines which I wanted to sing in Saregamapa.

But then, there was complete silence from Z TV’s side. So a few days later I forgot about the song. In the beginning of December, 2008, I called a person from Z TV to know when the shoot for that episode would take place. I was told that there was no certainty that the shoot would take place at all. But I got to know from other sources that the shoot would take place on 8th December. But as there were only two male singers in the top 6 of Saregamapa 2009, they needed only two female singers from Saregamapa 2007 to sing duets with them. So they selected Poonam Yadav (4th of Saregamapa 2007) and Mauli Dave (7th of Saregamapa 2007) and I was left out.
On 6th December, I was in Rajasthan for a show. That night, just after the show was over, I was informed that I would be required to attend technical rehearsal the next day in Mumbai and I would be singing the song “Tu Hi To Mera Dost” in a duet performance with Soumen in Saregamapa on 8th December.
The problem was that I didn’t remember the song well and I didn’t have audio of it with me. Next afternoon I reached Mumbai and went to attend the technical rehearsal. I got to know that Poonam Yadav got busy with some work at the last moment and she would not be able to come to Mumbai for the shoot. So I was called as a replacement of her. In the evening, I came back from the technical rehearsal and went to someone’s place and had to spend the evening there. I was worried about the song as I did not have any practice of the song. I came back home at the time of dinner...was too tired to practise singing.
Next morning I was off to the studio for the shoot. I was excited at the opportunity of singing in front of a great singer such as Shankar Mahadevan, but nervous at the same time about my lack of preparation. But after my performance was over, Shankar ji and Aadesh ji were very impressed. It was one of my happiest days at the Saregamapa :)

I was interviewed by a TV channel just after Saregamapa Challenge 2007. Here are two video clips of that interview.

In this interview I was asked about the ‘Love Triangle’ drama of Saregamapa Challenge 2007 and I replied that it was just acting. I would like to clarify that though I was dragged into that drama, I myself never played any part in that drama - onscreen or off-screen, actively or passively. In fact whenever I tried to raise my voice against it or anything else, it was edited out of the telecasts. I hope that after reading this post no one will ask me questions about that ‘Love Triangle’ drama again.

Hey, Khadija, u wanted to listen to more from my home recordings...here is one for u :)
I had to make some adjustments to the song...because in the original song, some of the lines sung by KK were too high for a female voice...so I had to lower the scale of the song to sing it.

Recently I was on the set of Ranbir Rano, a Hindi TV serial that is telecasted from Monday to Thursday at 10:30 p.m. India time on Zee TV. I performed two songs – Goonji Si Hai and Yeh Ishq Haye. But only one song will be included in an episode of the serial and I think that episode will be telecasted on next Monday, 3rd November 2008.

Murga Bole...my first Bengali song!

This month my first Bengali playback song has been released. The song is ‘Murga Bole Kukurku’ in the Bengali movie Shivaji. I think, I should consider it as my first playback release as I had sung only a few lines in a song ‘Ganna Ganna Di’ in the movie Bal Ganesh.
‘Murga bole kukurku’ is a duet song. Aneek has sung it with me. The recording of the song was an exciting experience for me. Being a non-Bengali, I didn’t understand a word of that song at first. When Bappi Da told the first few lines of the song, everybody present in the recording studio except me was laughing. Then I was explained the meaning of the song. Aneek helped me a lot in that matter. He explained meaning of each word to me. After the recording was over, everyone present there said that the song sounded like as if it was sung by a Bengali girl. So I was very happy with my work then. Even Bappi Da told that our voices are complementary. But now I find that my voice is changed with sound-effects in the movie :(
Still this song has sentimental value for me as it is my first full playback release, and my first Bengali song.

Tahaan, Rona Dhona Kya Karna

Last night I went to attend the music release of the movie Tahaan. It is a movie about a kid by the great cinematographer / director Santosh Sivan. I have sung a song “Chakhri(modern)/Rona Dhona Kya Karna”, written by Mehboob ji and composed by Ritesh Menon and Imran for this film. A sweet song – a little touch of folk and hip-hop is there. My first solo song :)
The cast and crew were present in the launch party –Rahul Bose, Sarika, Santosh Sivan and others. I met the lead actor of the movie 7 years old Purav Bhandara. Adnan Sami, who has sung in this movie, also came. In the end, we performed our respective songs.
It was a great experience to sing for a movie by a great film-maker such as Santosh Sivan and that too for a movie about a kid. I just love kids :)
I think, the movie will be released on 5th September.
